Challenges and Response during Distance Learning

Education is important to us Filipino because it is the main basis in finding a job. The Covid-19 Pandemic had make a huge impact in the economy, health care services, transportation, tourism and especially education. The education stopped at the middle of the month of March, year 2020 because Philippines had recorded the first case of Covid-19. Even students faces challenges, with the coordination of DepEd and Department of health, they made the continuations of classes successful by using Distance learning.

When the classes stopped, students wait seven months before the opening of classes in School Year 2020-2021. According to rappler.com, a drop of 2,732,467(10 %) fewer learner in all grades compare to the previous school year. The decision of students to just waited for face to face program caused the low rate of enrollment by 10%. The DepEd use modular learning as a type of distance learning. There are also challenges faced by students and also teachers during the distance learning. The main challenge for students is the unstable network connection. Some part of the module can be access online, but other students have unstable network and lack of devices. Students also have a problem in independent learning. Some students are more comfortable when there’s a teacher them to teach than learning alone with their module. After how many months when they starts the modular leaning, schools uses google meet and Facebook messenger to interact with the students. According to Rappler, Quezon City will be giving tablets to 175,731 public high school students amid the coronavirus pandemic that has forced youths to spend at least part of the upcoming school year at home.
Even there is a pandemic, we must continue our education. As they say ‘Education is the Key to Success’. Even the quality of education is lower then face to face class, continuing education is a must for us. The Government is doing their best to back us in normal life.

  2. Yes, Education is the key to success so we must study hard and learn to adopt the new normal. There are challenges in distance learning such as technical issues, distraction, and some students being left behind but there are many ways in addressing it like asking some help from the teachers and family, and we must have strong self-discipline to focus more on studying.
