Filipino's "Bayanihan" during Typhoon Ulysses

     In November 11-12, the Typhoon Ulysses landed on the Philippines especially in the part of Luzon. The typhoon landed at Cagayan and Isabela that submerged homes for the thousand of families. Typhoon Ulysses recorded its highest wind with 215 km/h(130 mph). The deadly and powerful typhoon categorized as category 4. They say that the typhoon Ulysses is the deadliest and most destructive tropical cyclone n the year 2020 in Philippines. By the resilience of Filipino, they worked together during and after the typhoon to lessen its damage.



According to Tzuchi Foundation, Typhoon Ulysses made landfall in Luzon on November 11 and caused widespread devastation throughout Luzon, including Bicol and Metro Manila, among others. The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that there were over 25,000 displaced persons throughout 273 barangays. According to Rappler, because of the previous tropical cyclones that preceded Ulysses, mountain ranges were not able to absorb as much rainfall as they could have, resulting in a "direct runoff," meaning water directly flowed to the reservoir. Celebrities, organization, famous person and other unaffected Filipino also taking actions to help. According to the official website of Philstar PH, Filipino fanbase of celebrated septet BTS managed to raise over P2 million in their collective relief drives for the victims of Typhoon Ulysses. In a Facebook post, fanpage BangtanPH shared a liquidation of various donations that total to P2 million. These were collected from ARMYs, which is their fandom name. Youtubers also donated with their own salary and sponsors. Ivana Alawi a famous youtuber, donated a ton of relief goods to Isabela and Cagayan. Donalyn an also youtuber created an earning video so that he can donate to the affected persons. Facebook streamers like Choox Tv created a “Star for a Cause” as donation. Unaffected Filipinos also donated their used clothes, small amount of money and relief goods to the affected families. According to Rappler, Visiting US National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien announced Washington's additional assistance of about P168 million ($3.5 million) to the Philippines in the wake of Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco), which killed at least 73 people, and after the devastation wrought by Super Typhoon Rolly (Goni).

We Filipinos had a traits that we help people without hesitation. In us, we called it "bayanihan". Bayanihan is a part of our culture that we help each other without expecting anything return.

  1. Hey it’s me again! After reading your previous draft I found out that your blogs are interesting to read. You’re right typhoon Ulysses is one of the most destructive tropical cyclone in Philippines. Despite the danger some people are still willing to risk their lives by rescuing people who were trapped and giving foods to evacuees. Keep it up!
